I started the today with training with Dongki for 90 minutes before my wife, who did the same. We started with a breakdown again of the swing mechanics of the golf club with practicing using a PVC pipe. Afterwards, we did swing rotation practice swings with a PVC pipe. Then, I balanced holding the club on 2 feet and then 1 foot. We used a rubber balancing semi-circle device. We finalized the day with jumping on a large box straight and then up and turning the body from a side position. Before and after the training today, I also did treadmill work (25 minutes before and 10 minutes after). After a nap, I went to CGCC and spent 90 minutes with Greg playing the 5 peg putter game I learned Continue Reading …

I started the day with 3 hours of golf with Amber at the Butch Harmon School, where Nick Helwig went over short game drills and games to play. We started with short chipping with a sand-wedge. Then, we went to longer chipping with the use of wrist. Afterwards, we played a game where we aimed 2 balls at the pitching green and the ball that got closest received 2 points, the second place was 1 point, and a ball in the hole was 5 points. The one gained 11 points first would win. Also, whoever got closest to the hole chose where to pitch from and which hole to aim at. Next, we played a final pitching game where we have 3 ranges to shoot into where we had 4 sticks laid out, and you had to shoot Continue Reading …

I started the morning with 30 minutes on the treadmill and then headed to the City Athletic Club to meet Dongki, who generously bought a membership for me for $39 as a discounted rate for membership at the gym. It is the nicest gym I have ever seen. I went in and started the golf workshop, which included a lot of swinging of a PVC pipe and a medicine ball. A lot of jumping from side to side with a cone on 2 sides as well. Afer my workout, I went home to take care of business phone calls and then headed to CGCC to practice for a couple hours on the pitching green. 9,780 remain. Random stat: I started my practice on the pitching green with a lot of poor shots and ended with a lot of more good Continue Reading …

Spent time each day doing practice at home doing 100 complete swings with the speed-stick I borrowed from Dongki and moving my weight from the left foot to the right. Continue Reading …

I went to CGCC this morning and caught up with Toby at the golf shop and then borrowed a sandwedge from Jason and practiced pitching. Dongki met up with me and then we proceeded to the CGCC and worked on drills. We started with swing practice and exercises where I focused on the 3 drills of push, pull and jump, and flexing my body. I also did swings with a titlelist swing speed stick. He broke down my swing into 6 steps: (1) all-right or the starting position, (2) take the club back parallel to the ground but in front of my ands, (3) wrist turn up to a 45 degree angle to the ground, (4) swing down to the ball, (5) follow-through with club to 45 degree angle, and (6) pull back around. We also Continue Reading …

I started the day by going to breakfast at the Hyatt House Downtown Seattle and then went to the Jefferson State Park Golf Course with Amber. It is a public course in a public park. After hitting the range and playing 9 holes, we had a great time and ended the day with a spa and then a flight back to Vegas. We didn’t keep score, but it was a lot of fun. Very interesting hole 10 had a platform with fake grass to hit off instead of normal grass. 9,789 remain. Random stat: My distance and strokes improved throughout the game as I remembered what I learned from Nick Helwig, which resulted in further distance and better drives on holes 8/9. Continue Reading …

Amber and I flew to Seattle this morning and then drove to Chambers Bay to attend the US Open. We received a parking spot at the Curtis High School, where a limo took us to the golf course. Upon entry, we visited the various pavilions, including the 1895 Club, which offered free lunch and refreshments. It was cool to be able to see Phil Mickelson pitching and other PGA Tour Pros seamlessly hit the ball on the course. Continue Reading …

My handicap on GHIN today changed not for the better, but my skillset overall has been continuously improving because I have been experimenting a lot and discovering how to improve various short game and long game strokes with more field experience. My GHIN handicap was updated today and it gives me the following history: May 1 – 29.8 May 15 – 30.4 June 1 – 32.7 June 15 - 32.7 (no change because I didn’t play 18 rather a lot of 9 holes) Another reason why is because I played multiple balls to re-do shots since I was a beginner and I wasn’t counting those strokes; however, I didn’t do that and actually counted those strokes as well because that is what will happen when I’m in Continue Reading …
