Although I went to Golf Galaxy for a club fitting for free (due to me going to buy clubs), they told me not to do the fitting because I just completed a better one at TPI. So I bought the Titleist clubs recommended to me and I also bought the training stick that Vic wanted me to get. The stick has grip on it that shows how to hold the club. I spent an hour practicing with it for a solid swing and good grip as well. Afterwards, Hunter and I went to the Taylormade Experience and got a quick tee time for an hour of 9 holes on the par 3 only course from 7:30pm-8:30pm. 9,729 remain. Random stat: I hit par on 2 holes and a birdie on 1 hole. Continue Reading …

I went to meet up at 11am at the Butch Harmon School of Golf, where I met up with Nick, Vic, and Dongki. Amber worked with Nick while I worked with Vic. Most of the time was working on my grip and swing with an 8-iron, but primarily the grip because it is the only connection between myself and the club. Afterwards, I practiced my swing at home a bit and then headed to Canyon Gate Country Club with my friend Phil, who was visiting from the OC. He was on the high school golf team and we practiced our chipping. 9,731 remain. I practiced using a 64-wedge and noticed that I had the most interesting high loft shots as it is supposed to be very good for sand game and close shots. Continue Reading …

I woke up early at 7am to head over to the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) in Oceanside, where I did a fitting with a guy named Dino Antenucci (and I also saw the famous Bob Vokey – the club designer for Titleist and he offers a Vokey Experience fitting and even custom creates clubs for you, which I’d like to do in the future after I get good with my first set of custom clubs using my data fro today). We worked on the trackman to track my speed and spin using the driver, 8-iron, 5-iron, 3-wood, and 5-wood. I was told that my clubs were about 1.5 inches too long, could use a thicker grip (ie 3 tapes instead of the standard 1 to help my hands have more cushion), and I got adjusted heads Continue Reading …

Went to City Athletic Club to train with Dongki and worked on my swing and compared my new swing with my old swing. There are obvious improvements. Afterwards, I followed Dongki’s orders and focused on my 8-iron at the Go Low and played 9 holes with Suri. 9,741 remain. Random stat: I noticed that my flexibility and rotation allows my body to turn a lot more than usual due to all the practice. Continue Reading …

Today, I was very pleased and excited to play golf at Badlands Golf Course with Dongki, even if it was just at the range. We focused on fixing my stroke of the 8-iron and driver. I needed to focus on my rotation, release, and body posture (with my chin up). I did a lot better with my iron and had a lot more time with it. Badlands is great for outdoors practice because it is in the shadows protecting you from the sun’s summer heat of the desert. Dongki wants me to send more videos of my practice as well. 9,744 remain. Random stat: I improved my stroke overall a lot in terms of rhythm on my 8-iron. Continue Reading …

This morning, I trained with Dongki. I started with focusing on my full swing and then focused on the impact and release. He made it make a lot more sense and simple. Also, he had me do squats with the PVC pipe and then an empty bar. We then did more swing practice and also did the same on one leg. To strengthen my back, we also had me lay part-ways on a workout seat and lift my left and right legs multiple times. We ended our session talking about swings and watching videos of PGA Tour swings with me topping off my session with more swing critiques. 9,746 remain. Random stat: Dongki wants me to focus my swing not on accuracy or distance rather focus 100% of my focus on rotation and body Continue Reading …

Dongki got food poisoning so we had to cancel our morning appointment so I ended up playing a couple hours of Tiger Woods PGA Tour Video Game on the PS3 to learn more about various swings and clubs. It was actually useful later in the day because I ended up playing 3 hours at the Go Low Golf range with Amber and also met with a stretch coach. I played 9 holes before my stretch (which lasted 30 min with Dan Gattis) and 6 holes after (and also some practice swings in between). 9,748 remain. Random stat: When turning on the auto-put feature (which gives you 1-hit and then the ball is in), I scored below par on 9 holes. Continue Reading …

Went to Angel Park Golf Course and played their Cloud 9 Executive Course with Amber. It is a 12 hole par-3 only course. When I arrived home from a fun day of golf, I practiced my swing with a thin PVC pipe with a 1-inch diameter for an hour. After taking care of business meetings and helping Amber with a car service appointment, I went to the Go Low Driving Indoor Range. My goal was to hit the ball above the average distance of PGA Tour players 10x I the row with various clubs. Today, I wanted to focus on the 8-iron and 9-iron. After 20 minutes or practice with the 9-iron, I was able to hit the ball consecutively 10x in a row over 100 yards. In addition, it only took me 10 minutes to hit the Continue Reading …
