Today, Amber and I met up with Nick Helwig, the Instructor of the Butch Harmon School of Golf, at the Rio Secco Golf Club for a golf lesson. We started off with the driving range to warm up with the 8 iron. Then, we played the first 7 holes, but when we got to the 8th hole, we found that things got slow because there was 8 people in front of us in 2 groups of 4 people. So we decided to bow out and head over to the Butch Harmon School and hit the driving range there. Also, we went into the video analysis center to practice hitting the ball while comparing our stroke to famous PGA Tour Pros. This was used to help adapt Amber’s stroke and it also helped me to adjust mine. I wasn’t turning over Continue Reading …

Today, I played Rio Secco with Greg for 18 holes and also hit the driving range. It was very windy, but a beautiful course. We had 2 caddies give us advice on the greens and it helped me get a better gauge of the putting greens. 9,835 remain. Random stat: Today, I practiced for the first time using an 8 iron under the guidance of Greg to hit half-way as a warm-up with half-swing and worked my way to full-swing and this helped me get better aim and also more control; I like this drill as a warm up-drill. Went to play Cascata with Greg, Sam, and Madison. Today was the first time that I had a caddy. His name was Dave and he gave me a lot of tips on which club to play. I played very well with my 4 iron and also did a lot of work with my 60 sand wedge. I had a lead on Sam for awhile, but he caught up and beat me on the later holes after warming up. It was a beautiful day today and a wonderful long 18 holes. Longest play at almost 6 hours of play today. 9,839 remain. Random stat: Scored a 120 at Cascata and lost 12 balls out of bounds, but I improved a lot on my strokes. Continue Reading …

I played golf today with a large group of 5: Greg, Amber, Madison, Sam, and myself; however, Amber and Madison rotated holes for the first 12 holes and then hung out at the Clubhouse due to exhaustion. We went to Bear’s Best, which was a great course for me to practice my new swing from Butch Harmon School. I shot a 112, but I got better and better throughout the course. 9,845 remain. Random stat: I had a beautiful par 4 that I played almost perfectly to hit a par, but I missed the hole on the putting green so I am considering playing with a different putter soon. Overall, I’m improving, but I’m also experimenting a lot more with different clubs so my handicap changed from a 29.8 on May 1 to Continue Reading …

My golf game today at CGCC was a bit off today. I scored a 65 on the first 9 holes. Hit the driving range with my friends and then we played a 5-some for 9 holes followed by a late lunch at the Clubhouse: Sam, Greg, Hunter, and Suri. 9,850 remain. Random stat: I used the 3-hybrid for most of my long drives today and it really wasn’t the right club for a lot of my strokes so I will use the irons a lot more in my future play. Continue Reading …

Woke up around 5:30am to play a round of golf with Sam, Vess, and Greg at the most beautiful golf course, the Reflection Bay Golf and Beach Club. Yes, it actually has beaches on Lake Las Vegas. Amazing views and we only played 9 holes because I had a massage appointment with my wife this morning at the Mandarin Oriental to celebrate her graduating from Harvard University. 9,855 remain. Random stat: I shot a 68, but my pro friend Sam shot a 38, which was very impressive to see. Continue Reading …

My friends, Greg and Vess, joined me at the Butch Harmon School of Golf in Las Vegas with our Instructor Nick. He gave us all video analysis comparing our strokes to Tiger Woods. As a result, my stroke has a lot more power. Previously, I had a big chicken wing in my stroke after hitting the ball. We did drills using the irons, drivers, putter, and sand wedges. It was a fully intensive day working in the sand, driving range, chipping green, and putting green. Afterwards, I got a putter fitting using the eyefit test of Odyssey, but I think that it was not very useful because my putting game is inconsistent. I plan to get proper fittings more often. During Butch Harmon School, Nick attached Continue Reading …
